President's Message
Kay Benston-Bushell
Our 2011 Kickoff event was held on March 5th. We had a excellent turnout and enjoyed very good weather as we played a nine hole scramble. The team of Marsha Borr, Kay Bushell, Barbara Knutson and guest Mary Parkhurst were the Scramble winners. Kathy Kampman was closest to the pin. Paula McGhee won the putting contest and Mary Ann Fink won the chipping contest. Our lunch, program, 50/50 and Silent Auction proved to be tasty, interesting, profitable and exciting. We raised over $500 to benefit our Chapter's Scholarship Fund.
At the March 19th outing at Lake Region Yacht and Country Club, Marina Choi (Future's Tour pro golfer) taught a chipping class. Marina demonstrated lots of tips to help our ball find the bottom of the cup.
We played Oakwood Country Club in Lake Wales on April 2nd. Oakwood is always a favorite event for our Chapter. Many of our members regularly play at Oakwood and enjoy hosting our visit to their home course. The game was least number of putts and Kay Bushell and Joann Porter tied at 30 putts.
On April 16th we played at LRYCC. The game was a random draw 3 person low net team. The team of Kay Bushell, Linda Eirich and Jo Duncan were the winners with a team score of 228.
Our Chapter Tournament is May 7th at Lake Region. We have 11 members signed up to compete in this year's tournament. That is a great turnout and represents 46 % of our members who are eligible to compete. Good luck to everyone!
For those not competing in the Chapter Tournament join us on the course for one of the special games our Events Chairperson (Kathy Kampman) will organize. After your game, please plan to stay for lunch and wish our tournament winners good luck and the semifinal tournament at Saddlebrook in Wesley Chapel on June 25th.
Many of our Chapter members are due to renew their membership during the months of March and April. It is easy to renew your membership on-line. Remember, the membership fee for members 65 and over are now lower and members who recruited 2, 3 or 4+ new members received gifts for EWGA. Check out EWGA.com for details.
The year marks the 20th anniversary of EWGA. In celebration, headquarters has many 20th Anniversary commemorative items for sale. Please visit the EWGA website for more information.
Also available on the EWGA website is 'Recipes for Success – On and Off the Course'. Sales from the recipe book will support the EWGA foundation. The Foundation was formed in 2003 and is dedicated to enriching the lives of women through the game of golf. The Foundation's 'Women on Par' Scholarship program is the largest contributor to LPGA-USGA Girls Golf. If you need/want a recipe book, check out the website and support women's golf at the same time.
Have a very Happy Easter!! See you on the tee,
Kay Bushell
